Some of us were fortunate. We migrated with preparation, employment, and stability. Over time, safety and comfort became our everyday reality.

But this is not the experience of every Indian abroad.

Many leave behind everything familiar, including family, language, and home, driven by responsibility and hope. While some journeys are smooth, others carry profound uncertainty. There are Indians across the world today facing legal confusion, financial distress, and isolation. These realities are often invisible, even within our own diaspora.

The principle of the table

India Abroad is built on this principle. We believe that success and struggle are not identities; they are circumstances. Whether you are well settled or still finding your footing, you enter as an equal. We do not grant equality. We begin with it.

What we actually do

We are not a charity driven by pity, and we are not an institution speaking down. We are also not an aid agency: India Abroad does not provide emergency response, legal or immigration advice, housing, or financial assistance, and it never has been able to.

What we provide is narrower and more useful. We run a platform on which a person in a city, a small town, an island or a village can find other Indians nearby, ask a question, offer help, share something local, or plan something together. Nobody applies. Nobody is vetted. Nobody needs a profile.

Who owns the community

IndiaAbroad.org provides and maintains the shared platform. The community itself belongs to the people who participate in it. Associations, cultural and religious organisations, volunteer groups, families, informal circles and businesses are all welcome to take part. None of them owns a locality, controls access to its people, or speaks for everyone in it.
